The goal is to make sure folks understand that we have to RESPECT EXPIRATION DATES!

They exist for a reason on foods and herbs and spices!!  YESSSSS THE SPICES IN YOUR CABINET!!!!

When they are expired they are no longer good for you!!  HEAR ME CLEARLYYYY!!!! Expired food and seasonings are not good for your body!

It’s for sure time for us to start respecting expiration dates!!

  • First stop… YOUR SEASONING CABINET!
  • Next…. YOUR FREEZER!!
  • Then….. YOUR FRIDGE!!
  • And dont forget about YOUR PANTRY

… with all the canned foods too!!!!  They already have additives and preservatives so that it lasts longer…. But chyleeeee if you are already past that…THROW IT OUT! THROW IT OUT! (In my T.I. Voice)

Hey Family!!!

I pray that you all are in great health or healing Godspeed!  At Cooking with Que & The Kitchen by Cooking with Que, the health and safety of our entire community is our top priority. Today we’re sharing a number of updates with our clients about new health and safety guidelines related to COVID-19 as well as features available on the Cooking with Que site.

Safely Delivering Your Meals: Catered or Meal Prep with Cooking with Que
We’re working closely with national and local authorities as well as a panel of health and safety experts to actively monitor the situation and ensure we’re operating safely with minimal disruption to service. Just know what are taking appropriate precautions to safely deliver your items. All Meal Prep Items will now be in completely disposable recyclable containers until we are in the clear.  Thank you to everyone who has been apart of us saving the planet thus far by returning recycled containers, but for the safety of our community we will be using completely disposable recyclable containers.

Introducing “Leave at My Door Delivery”
Next week, we are offering “Leave at My Door Delivery” feature to all customers, giving you more flexibility in how you want to receive your Meal Prep Orders. To use the new feature, simply select “Leave at My Door Delivery” as part of your delivery options at checkout. You’ll receive a photo confirmation once your Meal Prep order has been delivered.

There is a reason why we are known as the cleanest Kitchen in the City of Detroit, because of our overly precautious cleaning methods.  Our goal is to teach our community how to eat to live, and we will continue to do so.

Veggie of the Month: Tumeric by Savannah Grace Carter

August is Turmerific!Hello family! Welcome to our new plant of the month blog series! My name is Savannah Grace. I am a 9 year old girl who lives in North Carolina with my mom and spends summers in Michigan with my dad. I love to read fiction books and write short stories. I draw pictures of animals in my spare time, my favorite color is magenta and I think eating healthy is important! I am also proud to say I am Auntie Que’s niece! One day while visiting Auntie Que's business, The Kitchen, I thought it would be cool for her to have a plant of the month for her store. She loved the idea and told me that I should write a blog. It was our idea to start this blog series about a new plant every month. I am happy to announce that the plant of the month for July is turmeric! Turmeric’s scientific name is Curcuma longa. I think that is so cool! I will use the 4-1-1 to share my excitement about turmeric. That is 4 fun facts about turmeric, one surprising fact, and my favorite fact!4 Fun Facts About Turmeric -Turmeric has more than 50 types of use! This includes tea, skin uses, spices, soups, and more!-Turmeric has the potential to help prevent heart diseases, cancer and Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is a very bad disease. It destroys memory and brain cells.-Turmeric is also referred to as roots and Indian saffron.  It was found in New Deli in the time period of B.C.-Turmeric is a yellow-ish powder and it has helped some people to lose weight1 Thing That May Surprise You About Turmeric:Too much turmeric can cause stomach aches, nausea, dizziness, and bathroom trips. Also the first 'r' in Turmeric is silent. That sure fooled me at first. 1 Thing I Love About Turmeric:My favorite thing about turmeric is how it is used as a ceremonial plant in Asia. Quick Update

Hi Family,

It has been OFF THE CHAIN!  We just went into our fourth week of being open and it has been amazing!  Like  soo amazing.  Let me be honest though. The work is real.  I've been doing Live Demonstrations, for over 4 years now.  Running a new brick and mortar, that we've decided to offer healthy lunch to our community is a whole nothing situation.  I know everyone thing that social media tells the real story.. THAT IS A LIE! No one sees the hard work, the long late hours, the crying, the wondering if you are doing things right, the falling forward.  None of that. It's legit HARD WORK!

I didn't tell anyone I quit my dream day job on May third, and it got real.....REAL QUICK.  But you all know how I roll, if God tells me to go, I'm running. I'm not asking any questions I'm out (and we all know how much I loved my job...okay!!!)     Surely, God has something else in store for me.  There has been learning curves, hiccups and whatever else you want to call it.  but...IT IS WORTH IT!  YOU HEAR ME SAINTS!!! IT'S WORTH IT!
WHAT'S COOKING?
Classes start next wee, and for the last month, we have been serving up lunch from 11-2pm.  We have a wonderful ever changing menu, but there is always smoothies, salads, and sandwiches. Every Friday we are hosting an event called the Afterwork Wine Down, where you can enjoy your bottle, and our healthy cuisine.  Starting in July... get ready for our monthly Chef Battle, and Kitchen Karaoke (info coming soon).

Cooking with Que takes on Indianapolis for the Circle City Classic

I'm excited we are opening our palates to all kinds of foods.... #Vegan foods that is! Everything around us is #HBCU! It wreaks of Southern Hospitality! Everyone is say hello! Everye is happy! Everyone is Nice!!! #TearsOfJoy! It's a Celebration! Howard University -VS- Bethune Cookman University! When I say it's #LIT fam!! It is! Check Out the Circle City Classic

I've decided that it's time to do things to make my heart happy! It can't just be about work! I am a #Workaholic! I work my Family! I work my dream day job! I k Cooking with Que! I work my New brick and mortar, The Kitchen, and I work my Non Profits! God told me to reap the the fruits of my labor! So it's time to enjoy some things! I want to visit all 50 STATES and EVERY COUNTRY! Yep I said it!

Just expect pics of every food aspect of our trip. We are reviewing restaurants, the experiences, hotels and anything else you can think of!

Meet Quiana “Que” Broden and learn the “Why” behind Cooking With Que

Soooo before you understand “Que” I gotta let you in on some things … ok?

The Why …

I have not been Vegan my whole life.  Surprised?  Don’t be.  It’s been a couple of years now.  And I mean a couple of GREAT, LIFE CHANGING YEARS.

10 years ago, I was a person with chronic sinus issues, always had bronchitis, like seriously; I could catch a full-blown cold in the middle of summer.  After a gazillion tests, copays, skin biopsies and even a lung biopsy – I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis and they found that I was allergic to DAIRY (yeah … tears were shed).  Due to the stage of this obnoxious Lung Disease and the aggressiveness of it, I was told that I needed to be put on steroids and that I would have to take them everyday for the rest of my life.  (WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!…. were my words.. VERBATIM, to my pulmonary specialist)

My mind couldn’t fathom taking a drug that would deteriorate my kidneys and break me down – and I wasn’t even 30 yet?  All I could think about were my kids.  I refused to break myself down and kill myself with all of the prescribed drugs that I was going to have to take.  NO!!!!!! …… NoThankYou!!

So I did what any person would do … I searched for alternative holistic methods and recipes and that was how my healthy way of life started.

(For the record, I only take meds on occasion when I’m having major Sarcoid flare ups, outside of that… I don’t take STEROIDS DAILY AND I’M HEALTHY AS EVER!!!!  BOOM!!!)

The Vegan Transition … in a Land of MeatEaters

This came about by fluke of nature people! After the normal Thanksgiving – Christmas feasting… I was feeling tired, overly full, completely bloated and I honestly felt like I weighed as much as a Walrus (No Joke).  My body had enough and so I said … NO MORE. I NEED TO GO ON A 10 DAY CLEANSE!!!!! I had to reboot my insides.  I started #ColdTurkey (no pun intended).  It was immediate.  I told my family and I kept my word.

When my 10 days were up, I didn’t feel the need to go back. And guess what? Till this very day, I’m still on my cleanse!  LOL!

This body of mine is happy, healthy and doing it without anything that had a Momma!

My husband and kids are still MeatEaters, but they are healthy MeatEaters. They have minimal dairy (they don’t know it though) and eat chicken, turkey and seafood, No Pork and No Red Meats.  My grandparents … oh … let me tell you … they  sneak the kids burgers every now and then (smh) they think it’s a treat for them (and you can’t really tell an 80 & 83 year old what to do … it DOES NOT END WELL,  believe me I’ve tried!!!).

Now, being Vegan in a house full of MeatEaters is a normal way of life for me.  I cook some pretty awesome meals for my family everyday and “Cooking With Que” is the space I have created to show people from any kitchen, healthy ways to satisfy everyone at the table.

Hi Fam

It’s Friday Eve and my darling you have made it past 3 days into the 3 | 5 | 7 Vegan Challenge!!!!

Whoop!! Whoop!!  (screams yeahh)

You are doing it!!!!  

For those of you who chose 3 days YOU MADE IT!!! You completed the challenge and I hope that you #FinishedStrong

For those who chose to take it further like 5 days or 7 days, keep up the great work!!!

I wanted to make sure that this 3 | 5 | 7 Vegan Challenge was comfortable for everyone.  I wanted each person to be able to make it their own. Try it for 3 days, then the following month push yourself even further by trying it for longer.  It’s completely up to you.  Whatever makes you comfortable 🙂

I posted a video to really get everyone to focus on Why you chose to do this.  Knowing your Why helps you to push towards your goals mentally and physically.  Feel free to reply back to this email and let me know your why!! I included it below.

Just know… I’m super proud of you!!!

Trump, Hillary, & Diets … 3 Things you don’t want to talk about

Hey Family,

Did I get your attention.  I meant what I said.  I’m absolutely not gonna talk about Donald Trump.  I’m not gonna mention Hillary Clinton either.  I’m not even going to say the word DIET (well only to explain why this is not one, stick with me!) Cooking with Que does not do diets!! WE EAT TO LIVE.

So before we start our 357 Vegan Fast, we have to get our hearts ready and our minds right.  This is not a diet.  I don’t even want to call it a diet, because the word “DIET” freaks people out.  Calling it a diet means that we just wanna try this and if it doesn’t work we are gonna just try something else.
