How to Be a Healthy Grocery Shopper

Words of Wisdom: Stay Close to the Perimeter

I say this because along the perimeter of every grocery store lies all of your fresh, preservative free foods. I’m talking food in its natural form. Not canned. Not made to last forever. Just the fresh stuff. Think about it.
Where are the fresh fruits and fresh veggies at your local market. Right on the outskirts of the store! Fresh meats? Around the outside. Fish? You know where this is heading right? There is a difference from the fish you purchase at the fresh fish counter versus the fish in the aisle ... in those cans. (just sayin’)

Now, to make sure that we are all on the same page, I am, by no means, saying … “Do Not Buy” foods from the inner aisles, but I am ABSOLUTELY saying to pay attention to what you buy. If you spend more time inside the aisles, start reading the labels. I ca n guarantee it will change your thought process about how you shop.

Quick Tips

  • Make a list, before you go to the store - Focus on it
  • Shop the perimeter, more than the inner isles
  • Meat, Fish, Poultry - try to buy the leaner meats, caged free, free range
  • Buy “real foods” like 100% fruit juice, 100% whole grains etc.
  • If you can’t pronounce the ingredient….your body probably can’t break it down

Moral of the story is good nutrition starts at the grocery store, BE A HEALTHY SHOPPER!!!

May your taste buds be forever satisfied
